the other half of turning One…

as usual, I’m late writing about milestones and Piglet is now nearly 14 months! ooppss

Here’s my memories & snapshots of piglets 7-12 months

Month 7

Lots of things happened this month, for milestones, she really began to change even more…

Piglet & I started a fitness class called ‘sweaty mama’ if you follow me on insta, I regularly post our weekly shots. She loves it, bouncing around, listening to the music & watching the other babes that are strapped to their mamas.

This month brought us a pretty big milestone, not one i’m happy about as you know I only grew her, birthed her, fed her… she said DADA for the first time! I know, I know! Its the easier word to say haha

This month marked her first time in her cot, she was a star, like her big bro was, she took to it straight away. Was very strange for the first few nights, kept waking up to check her beside me, and she wasn’t there! Thank god for monitors

She began to master tummy work, by going around in a circle, she also started to sit, but still slides.

Another major milestone, is due to weaning, shes gradually not wanting boob as much, you may of seen my blog post about this. “Our Boobing journey”

Towards the end of this month, our breastfeeding journey, came to an end!

Month 8

She ROLLED…. yay

She mastered it, finally! shes even grasping sitting on her own, far more, she can go from sitting to on to her belly!

Piglets love for food, is crazy, she will try anything, she loves most things, she LOVES fruit, mainly blueberries, she loves cheese, to be honest, anything you give her, she will likely to love it.

Month 9

She started to CRAWL…. eeekkkk

Life as we knew it was over, she’s mastered it and can now get anywhere she wants, she doesn’t have to wait for someone to listen to her UH OH

I had noted, that her teeth looked like they were on their way, you will soon see that was not correct, apart from the fact of the signs! Dribble, irritated, broken sleep, the nappies… oh the nappies! why do they smell so chemically… eeww

Month 10

Literally every month shes having Major milestones and this month brought..

Standing up at things.. massive uh oh haha

And yes still no teeth

She is quite frankly into everything, especially if its not for her, or not even a toy!

Month 11

She’s pretty partial for grass & sand and the occasional stone as part of her diet, it doesn’t matter how many times we say No! Guess we have to wait for her to get bored of it!

This month took us on her first holiday, and she loved it, she loved swimming, the water, the sand! obviously!

She started to stand more by herself, a whole 8 seconds that I noted.

Pointing has also become a thing! Points at everything

Month 12

Birthday Month

We moved this month and Piglet finally has a room of her very own, Monkey and Piglet quite enjoyed sharing, more monkey, but its fab for them to have their own space

She was born this month eeekkk

A whole year of this beautiful, clever, determined little lady, she made us a four! I cant quite believe how fast it went, def goes faster with number 2! But boy does it feel like she’s been here forever!

SHE GOT A TOOTH………. YAY she wont be a gummy bear.

This year has been truly awesome in so many ways, I am truly lucky to have such funny, good natured, determined children and I cant wait to share with you

Our Journey

My favourite 6-9 month picks for Piglet..

IMG_3066I had dressed piglet in outfits but mainly the odd leggings here, that kind of thing. When they are tiny, they always seem so un-comfy in outfits.

Its from 6 months, that I found myself buying lots more to dress her in, rather than a baby grow.. although I have to say I do LOVE a baby grow.

This lovely number was a present, its from Next, although having ‘up to 3 months’ on the label, It was perfect for the recent summer day we had a few weeks ago.

You may notice a theme going on, as to where I shop, this gorgeous floral romper is from Next.

Because Girls can LOVE dinosaurs too right! I love this because, its a vest, but with the impression of a top, stunning ruffle capped sleeves, a great buy from Baby Gap

The cutest dungarees, these were actually Monkey’s and were a John Lewis product, teamed with a fabulous Rose and Guy topknot bow, check them out here, they even do mummy ones.

One of my favourite tops, its from M&Co, its not my sort of place, but for children, you can pick up some lovely pieces.

Yep, you’ve guessed it Next, its super soft and she always seems so comfy in this.

Another fav of mine, who doesn’t love a bit of denim, just be careful when washing, I accidentally turned the white bits on the separate top a little blue…. This is from Matalan, and its something that will last her through the summer.. If we have one! Teamed with yet another Rose and Guy topknot bow.

IMG_3620 (1)

You cant have some picks without some accessories, so here’s Piglet’s first proper pair of shoes… (she has others, that she was given, when she was tiny) These are from the fabulous Moc and Me, they are 6-12 months, take a look here

Ergobaby – Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh

“Ergobaby provided the Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh for me to try and review.”

It came perfectly packaged & lots of information within the booklet.

It came, just in time for a weekend in the country, with my parents, we had lots planned, so to take this carrier was very exciting.

Although the booklet is great, you do need to have a proper look, as to put on, and secure baby, you need to know what you are doing.

The hubby and I did struggle for a little bit, trying to figure out what to do.

Mainly due to the fact, we cant seem to do a task together without some frustration ha ha

Once piglet was safely in, straight away, I knew this was a great product.

We spent the day at a car museum, So piglet was carried by me, for a fair few hours, and it didn’t feel like that, She felt supported, as did I.

She was nearing 8 months at the time, so not a light newborn, and it was so comfortable.

There’s a mini “bum bag” by their feet, which I used to carry, my phone, her dummy, that kind of thing.

There is also a rain cover that comes out of the part near their chest and ties to straps to keep baby dry, which strangely for the UK, I didn’t need to use, but when we do, I’ll update this.

I was using the Baby Bjorn for many months, although it wasn’t ideal for my ‘baby carrier fitness class’. The Ergo baby was by far, amazing for this, doing a fitness class with a baby attached to you, you need all the support you can get, and this carrier was great for this. Especially the mesh part, it allowed us both to breath far easier, the shoulder straps are so comfortable on your shoulders and weight is distributed evenly. The only thing I would say, is, it takes a little time to get the hang of removing baby, as can be a little tricky. But that could be down to being a sweaty tired mumma, after the class!!

Piglet, always seems content and happy and this is the most important thing to me, she is supported, and I am comfortable, I never have the feeling of… get this off of me! So to me, that’s a win win.

I am yet to try the different options available on this carrier, including a hip hold and carrying them on your back, so will update when we try this.

I highly recommend this carrier, All thoughts are my own, Please ask permission before sharing or using my imagery.

Our Boobing Journey..

*FYI- Look away if boobs offend you! I’ve shared my journey which include photos of me feeding my babies*

I’ve started to write this, when piglet and I, are days away from our breastfeeding ‘boobing’ journey, it’s coming very near to the end.. sob sob

With monkey, I didn’t acknowledge all my feelings with breastfeeding, the beginning was a nightmare, he latched after being born, but the next day, when the midwifes wanted to check (being the first) He wouldn’t play ball, he didn’t know what he was doing, I didn’t know what I was doing! I was poked and prodded, boobs squeezed, to get the slightest drip out with a syringe! I said at the time I just needed to be at home in the comfort of our surroundings. When I did get home, we laid and practiced and he eventually latched! Being my first I didn’t realise the stress it would cause, that you should pull them off and put on again if sore! I would cry through some feeds as my nipples were so sore! So many times my hubby would say ‘lets just put him on a bottle’ It would break my heart to even contemplate that, and I would just battle through! ‘I can’t put him on bottle! I should be feeding him like this’ I never sought help, I got advice from the health visitor and friends, but I didn’t explain how hard it was!

After 6 weeks we did find our way, I think partially the nipples got used to it, once I knew what I was doing, the feeding got better.

caleb bfI was eventually fine, the covering up didn’t seem so important, I would whip them out whenever he needed, I was exposed many times, cheeky monkey.. literally!

From about 4 months, maybe.. from memory, my hubby would give him a bottle as his last feed of the night!

When we started on food, his feeding habits changed, then at 5.5 months when he was on 3 meals a day ish, he would get fussier and fussier on the boob!! I didn’t think much about it, I was sad but it seemed the norm to just go with the flow! I just wanted him to be getting what he needed, so one day I just gave him a bottle on his first feed and boom that was it, no more booby, there was no plan, no lead up! Monkey totally decided! and so by 6 months he was no longer breastfed!

Fly all the way to the present and piglet is 8 months on Monday… this experience has been so different, with, some similarities.

She too, fed minutes after birth, she took to it straight away! was like riding a bike! I thought that way too, We know what we are doing… I was wrong! It took a few days for the milk to actually come in, didn’t help being completely sleep deprived and she fussed and couldn’t settle!

Few days in, we got our groove on. I’m not sure if my instinct from monkey set in, some mistakes I had made with his feeding!, But any time she didn’t quite latch, I took her off and put her back on. We still had the hard 6 weeks, like I had with monkey, it seems lots of people have the same 6 weeks… but this time I added a support group on Facebook and that was my life line, I posted a few times, but it was more knowing there were mummies in the same position as me, feeling the same, going through this journey. That at 3 am when you are feeding or they are not settling, that there’s someone else feeling the same!

Again like monkey, we soon got into the swing if it, just she FED alllll the time, if she wasn’t sleeping, she was boobing! Hence her nickname ha ha

I always had 5 months ish in mind, as wanted everything like I had with monkey! Again we would give a bottle here and there, just in the event of us going out, if she couldn’t wait, then my parents or my hubby could settle her, we’ve only been out an handful of times, but we are happy she got used to one!

I flit in and out, of wanting her, to be boobing, but time has just flown and actually when I think about it, it makes me so sad! Its that feeling of no longer being needed, the feeling of not being the ONLY one to settle her! I’ve also felt much more empowered and part of an amazing community, mainly on Instagram, as that is, where I hang out! Its somewhere I have shared my experiences and shared imagery, I NEVER thought I would, but its OK, its somewhere its accepted, to be proud, and enjoy feeding your baby!

(can I just say if you haven’t breastfed, there is no judgement here, in my opinion and that’s all it is, is ultimately a baby needs feeding and if that means by bottle, then good on you! happy mummy happy baby… )

Around 7 months the hubby gave her a bottle as her ‘last feed’ of the night, a few days later and she went into her big cot in her big bros room.. eekk

Since then, and being on 3 meals a day,  shes currently fussing more, just like monkey did, the last few days shes been having an afternoon bottle too, so shes only really boobing in the morning, I just know its days away from her going onto bottle full time.

I am so sad! and anxious, I never in a million years thought I would even get this far, let alone approaching month 8! Now I see why there’s so many mummies that are still feeding past year one.

I do think, yay no more wearing a bra at night time, no more breast pads, and thinking about what to wear and can you pull a boob out! But its more than that, I’ve enjoyed it, its me and her time, that no one else gets, the looks, only I get, that time to just relax with each other.. OK, i’m sorry, its all cliche, but for me, I really mean it!

I’m not sure i’m quite ready to give it all up! but ultimately, piglet is deciding and its her choice! I will do what she wants!………

My tips for feeding-

  • If you want to cover up! Anything works, muslin’s, jumpers, blankets (as long as you keep an eye to make sure they are not over heating and can breath)
  • Stock up on lots and lots of CHOCOLATE, its a saviour when you need that calorie and energy boost (obviously a good diet and vitamins too, but where is the fun in that?!)
  • Drink lots of water, you can get so dehydrated
  • Lansinoh cream, esp the first few weeks its a God send!
  • Lansinoh Breast pads, I’ve tried so many types and these, really are, amazing
  • Good nursing bras, supportive, and get a few. I’ve seen some ladies recommend New Look as a good place to get some, mine happen to be from John Lewis (but are a little pricey)
  • A decent nursing pillow, mine was by Widgey, its very soft and supportive for you and baby
  • Get comfy, ensure you have pillows behind you, to support your back
  • Try all positions, you will find ones that work for you

Above all else, keep at it, but if for any reason, its not happening for you or your baby, please do not worry, firstly get your health visitor to check for tongue tie, push for a check if you still feel something isn’t quite right! your instinct is always right!

Even if you try, and it still isn’t right for you! That’s OK! (not that you need my permission) but a baby fed by any means, is the right thing! Bottle or Boob who cares as long as mummy is happy then so will your baby 🙂

It worked for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed my journey, but it doesn’t always go that way!

If you need support please take a look and also ask your health visitor, don’t suffer! breastfeeding support link

Monkey vs Piglet in the Pregnancy Stakes..

I was so lucky to have nice normal pregnancies with both of my babies, I never had sickness, only the odd SPD aka pelvic pain, the usual fun with being pregnant. Below is a snapshot of how it was for each of mine.

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • The wait for the first scan is so unbelievably long, we ended up having an early 8 week scan, just to make sure it was true.

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • Yep, we had an 8 week too… what!! I cant wait until 12 that’s so far away

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • I was working, so every minute I was thinking about my growing bump, planning, sorting maternity leave, having lots of baby related deliveries come to my work place

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • I had not long taken redundancy when we fell pregnant with piglet, but I didn’t have much time to think about everything as was so busy with Monkey. I had also started a social media course! Nothing like juggling lots of things, so to speak

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • My sister and I were pregnant at the same time, (supposed to be days apart, ended up being 11 days) it didn’t go well at the beginning (sister rivalry from both sides ha ha) but it was the best thing, we bonded so much, it was great sharing this experience with her, we are so lucky to have our children together, like best buds, twinnys!!
  • Two of my best friends had their babies either side of me, another had not long had a baby, so I got to share with so many of my friends!

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • I was alllll alone, no one else was pregnant with me! Which in one way was nice but in another I had no one to share it with!

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • People from the get go, are so excited for you! They tell you any stories they know, they will also comment on your growing bump and guess the gender. Forever in touch to see how you are getting on.
  • I was working at the time, so you are seeing people all the time

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • No one really cares!!
  • … Ha ha OK so that’s not entirely true! But sometimes it feels like it, In fairness, when you’ve already had a baby, people don’t have the same excitement as they do with the first.
  • As I had not long taken redundancy it was a lonelier time as naturally you are not seeing people everyday.

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • Like I said earlier, we had an early scan, but we then had the NHS 12 week, at 15 weeks while away in the country I had a bleed so went to the local hospital where we were staying, I was lucky to get another scan to see our baby, who was just being as cheeky as ever. We had the NHS 20 week and then a 4D at about 32 weeks maybe a bit later, which I would recommend to anyone, its amazing and helps to make it all feel real.

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • So like with Monkey we had the early 8 week scan, NHS 12 week, a 15 week to find out her gender eekk (we had a surprise with monkey) We had the NHS 20 week, but throughout my pregnancy with piglet, we had another 4 maybe 5 scans as they were concerned about her growth (we loved it as got to see her), the results ended up being perfectly FINE (Especially looking at her now ha ha our chunky piggy) we again had a 4D towards the end of pregnancy
  • It was amazing to find out her gender, as not only we’ve experienced both (finding out and not) but to find out on this one, was just great, it really helped from Monkeys point of view, to know he was getting a sister. We took him to the 4D as well as he loved it, it really helped to show him, that there was a real life baby sister coming his way.

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • I had what looked like a basketball for most of the pregnancy, this tiny neat bump until the latter when water retention took over! Whats worse is I never really noticed at the time, its when you look back! why no one told me ha ha although you never should say anything to a pregnant women, so maybe that’s why!

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • Again with piglet, I had a pretty neat bump at least at the beginning, the later I went on the bigger my bump got, comparing pictures it was definitely a MASSIVE bump. I was so low from pretty early on (that particular comment from people) “oh you are so low, baby will be here soon” ha ha nope, see my birth story for that one!

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • I took pictures all the time, maybe not so Instagramable (wasn’t on it back then) of my bump, weekly pictures of my growing belly. Videos of monkey moving and his heartbeat. Its funny but once they are here, you never really look back on them, until writing something like this, or you want to go back to see!

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • I took a lot lot more this time! Much more with showcasing in mind ha ha, but also not to miss anything, bump every week, bump in the bath, with monkey, what outfits I was wearing, holiday, my iPhone is bursting at the seams now oppss
  • That’s one thing about me, I LOVE photos

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • Time seemed to drag, I mean looking back (4 years ago plus eekk) of course it was no time at all. But every week was sooooo long, waiting each week for the vegetable or fruit (if you have the apps) waiting for them to change, waiting for every milestone, the first heartbeat, movement, scans, appointments, for me as I was working, waiting for the last day to come, oh it felt like a lifetime

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • The odd moment seemed to drag, but with her being my second, it just flew, before I knew it was halfway! Having monkey to think about and life! It just went by so fast, I never seemed to have a moment to get anything done! As for nesting HA HA

Pregnancy with Monkey

  • I knew the days, weeks, hours even minutes of how far I was…

Pregnancy with Piglet

  • Ha Ha only if I opened my app to check did I have a clue of how far along I was!

I was very lucky and so very fortunate to of had such lovely, healthy pregnancies and births.

Although each were somewhat different, of course! They were also very similar. Oh its posts like this, that make me miss my bumps… sob sob!

Over 6 months out..

Its been such a whirlwind, how our daughter and our family, of four status, is, over 6 months already! In fact shes more like 7 & a half months, eekkk. Its crazy, its like shes always been here!

I wanted to note down her moments, so these are snapshots from each month so far, all documented on my notes in my phone, hehe!

Month One

The first few nights of being home, was a massive shock to the system, going from one child to two, was definitely different! She was great during the day, but, the minute it was night time, she definitely tested us! Martin named her ‘demon’ for those first few nights! No one can explain what its like having one child, but, even more so, when you add to your family! Monkey has been amazing, he dotes on her, and there’s been absolutely no jealously, yet. Battling through feeds, broken sleep, visits from friends and family, and normal day to day life, we did wonder what we had done! We had gone from a son who eats by himself, goes to the toilet, can dress, can talk… alllllll the way back to the beginning!

When pregnant, you really think that not much will change  and that you know what you’re doing.. you really don’t, ha ha

Anyway back to Piglet…

She is one hungry monster, hence, getting her nickname piglet, and she snorts here and there! which is what I do when I laugh (don’t judge)

It was tough for the feeding part, for a few days while the milk came in, it was a much better process to monkey, Piglet seemed to know what she was doing straight away!

Her weight is increasing at every weigh in, which is great, makes such a difference to know what you are doing is working!

Considering she is a very sicky baby, nothing like her brother, every burp brings up something! Muzzies (muslin’s) for monkey were just for show, oh no! Not for piglet, we go through SO many each day!

At a week old was her first bath, she was not keen at all! Although I don’t blame her, the luke warm baths wouldn’t be nice for anyone!

Month Two

Its gone super fast already!

Week 5, we’ve started a massage course, not too sure she likes it, but something to work on, eekk

From 5 1/2 weeks piglet has started to smile, well, at least that’s what we think, could be wind, haha

6-7 weeks, Sleep has been found, shes starting to get into her own routine, at the moment its 12am-8am #feellikewearewinning

Shes now a bigger piglet at 10.7lbs, shes so perfect, and a real chunk! So different to monkey, he was and still is, so lean, and has chicken legs, whereas piglet has yummy thighs and rolls in places, I didn’t know you could! Both of them have been so different, but my heart is full, with my babes.

End of this month, was the dreaded jabs, booo! You would of thought there would be a nicer way! Always feel so mean! She actually did OK, we had an afternoon of boobing and cuddles… #standard

Month Three

Week 9, shes starting to notice these strange objects connected to her hands, shes fascinated, but, i’m so sure she knows they are hers!

Week 10, we took them both swimming! I was dreading it as monkey wasn’t a massive fan when we took him as a baby. She LOVED it, kicking away, didn’t even seemed fazed by getting splashed by her big bro. As it was a new pool, monkey and I went on the slides, took forever! I was expecting Martin, to take her out, as I was sure she would be upset, cold and hungry! No, to my amazement she was fine, in fact she wasn’t too happy when we did all get out to go, he he

End of the three months, shes giving us so much more interaction, smiles, fascinated with our faces and what we are doing! Monkey is her absolute favourite, turns whenever she hears him.

Month Four

Her personality is becoming even more evident! She didn’t get the baby memo, the fact that mummy wants her to stay little for as long as possible, as it goes too fast. She’s starting to laugh, wants to stand, shes not keen when  you lie her down on her play mat, continuously wanting to sit up.

The smiles she gives her brother is utterly amazing, they have so many cuddles, he is forever making sure she is OK.

Month Five

At the latter end of month four, we started piglet on odd bits of porridge (yes i know what all the ‘professionals’ say), but we did it with monkey and he’s OK. We have been giving it intermittently, very hit and miss but she seems to love it.

Now we are into month five, shes getting more into trying food, we’ve tried puree, but once six months starts we will try even more!

Shes becoming even more aware of whats around her, and even what is going on with her, shes found her toes and loves to jump, so, out came the Jumperoo and she loves it.

Shes such a mover, I think the minute she gets going, ‘that’s it’ she will be off!! aaahhhhh

We are getting stuck into Christmas, we can’t wait for Piglet and Monkey, their first together, we are staying with my parents in the countryside. I know she doesn’t have a clue whats going on, but we are excited to see Santa and enjoy all the festivities with friends and family.

Month Six

We started Monkey music at week 23 and she LOVES this, seeing her change in these weeks it has been amazing, she now shakes the rattle, pays attention to the lady, it really captures her for those 25 minutes, bubbles, drums, bells (I think its because its a monkey as the main act, as that’s her big bro of course)

Over these weeks we’ve been giving her more and more food, we decided to do a mix of everything. She has porridge of a morning, sometimes a puree at lunch & dinner, but its becoming more and more where I have given her picky foods to try herself. I love BLW (baby led weaning) as does she. She loves a satsuma, banana, bread, cheese, yogurt, she likes a bit of spaghetti bolognese, shes pulled the funniest of faces trying certain things, especially melon & kiwi.

In terms of movement, she still hasn’t rolled… so lazy! I do think she will miss certain things and just get up and walk one day, haha. She slides on her back, around her play mat, and arches her back, looking like shes going to, but nope! Some say the second is faster with things, I think she will be the one to just sit there, and be waited upon, haha.

I cant believe shes over Six months, we are nearing, at the fastest of paces, her first birthday, and i’m trying to saviour and capture every single second! It feels like shes been here five minutes, but equally like shes been with us forever!

Here’s to the next Six months of memories and milestones
